I found that it is nice to visit there especially if you bring you family. During my visit I can see lots of photographer taking photo of the flowers… in Malaysia not everyday that you can see lots of flower in one place like this event…

As promise, here is the some of the photo that I take during the visit… I am sorry that the photo is not so clear, it is at night time when I visit the exhibition.

Not just the farm that you can visit if you come here, you can shop for the grapes as well. I try it… it is very sweet and the price I pay at that time is RM15 per packet. They have the fresh grapes and also grape juices drink (it is non alcohol btw, and not a vine)

Sik bakal jadi pengeluar utama anggur

SIK 7 Mei – Daerah ini akan menjadi antara lokasi utama pengeluaran anggur negara apabila projek penanaman anggur di sekitar kawasan Empangan Beris dekat sini mengeluarkan hasil sepenuhnya tidak lama lagi.

Menteri Besar Kedah, Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak berkata, tanaman anggur baka Black Opal, Black Grape, White Malaga dan Lose Plite itu adalah untuk pasaran tempatan.

Beliau berkata, projek perintis fasa pertama dengan 1,000 pokok anggur yang digerakkan Excel Agrotech Sdn. Bhd. kini berjaya membuahkan hasil memberangsangkan di kawasan seluas 1.6 hektar di Kampung Ternas.

“Sebelum ini daerah Sik terkenal dengan produk tradisional seperti ikan pekasam dan kuih muih. Namun dengan adanya teknologi pertanian baru, kita mahu Sik juga dikenali sebagai pengeluar anggur utama negara,” katanya kepada pemberita selepas melawat kerja ladang anggur itu baru-baru ini.

Menurut Azizan, beberapa kawasan tanah terbiar di daerah ini juga telah dikenal pasti untuk ditanam dengan anggur.

“Terdapat banyak lagi tanah terbiar di Sik dan kita berharap pihak swasta dan usahawan tani dapat menggerakkan usaha menjadikan Sik sebagai lokasi pengeluaran anggur utama negara tidak lama lagi,” jelasnya.

Tambahnya, kewujudan ladang anggur terbabit dijangka turut memberikan impak positif kepada pengusaha sektor pelancongan pada masa akan datang.

“Apabila wujudnya ladang anggur, para pengusaha sektor pelancongan boleh membina calet atau rumah rehat bagi tujuan menarik kemasukan pelawat dan menikmati suasana serta keindahan alam di Tasik Beris,” katanya.

Dalam pada itu, Pengarah Urusan Excel Agrotech, Amiruddin Malik berkata, projek tanaman anggur itu dimulakan pada 2007 di pinggir Tasik Beris dengan modal kira-kira RM500,000.

“Selama ini kita menganggap anggur hanya sesuai ditanam di negara yang mempunyai empat musim. Sekarang dengan kemajuan teknologi pertanian, ia boleh ditanam di Sik,” ujarnya.

Katanya, pokok anggur yang ditanam sejak kecil akan mengambil masa kira-kira 10 hingga 12 bulan untuk matang dan mengeluarkan hasil.

Ditanya tentang kaedah penanaman, Amiruddin memberitahu, anggur yang ditanam di situ menggunakan kaedah biji benih, keratan ranting, tunas dan penghasilan tisu kultur.

“Sebelum mengambil keputusan menanam anggur di sini, saya telah membuat kajian kesesuaian tanah selain mempelajari teknik-teknik daripada pengusaha di Thailand dan Perlis,” katanya.

Beliau berkata, berikutan kejayaan tersebut, syarikatnya kini sedang mengembangkan penanaman anggur di kawasan seluas 12 hektar dengan 7,000 batang pokok di kawasan Sungai Senam dekat sini.

If you visit Sik (in Kedah) I recommend you to pay a visit to this place… even you didn’t visit the Vineyard, but the lake itself is very nice.

Since this is the first time I visit this place, I have no idea about the road there or the time it open. But luckily everything went on smoothly and my trip there is very fine…

For someone that new, here is some information about the sanctuary that I found on the net:-

Objectives of the Centre
- Overall
For the continuos conservation of the elephants and its habitats through sustainable management in tandem
with the aspirations of the country.
- Immediate
1) Ensuring of the protection and management of the elephants and its habitants
2) Enhancing the public’s knowledge,awareness and support on the importance of elephant conservation.
3) Managing the Centre as a centre for Research and Education as well as an economic & eco-tourism
activities site.

The Centre has also played guests to interns/volunteers with veterinary, zoologial and eco-tourism
and/or business/marketing OR hands-on living skills backgrounds from Czech Republic, the UK,
the US, New Zealand, Slovenia, France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Germany and Canada, not only
to offer their skills and knowledge for the conservation of elephants but, in exchange, to learn more about
the local culture, conservation efforts and the host country.

It take me about 2 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur (at 80km/h) to reach the place… I don’t know the exact distance as I didn’t measure it at the time I start the trip. However, it is about 10km from the last toll i.e Exit 816 of the highway.

Here is the activities there:

2pm – The elephants will be led away to the holding area for grooming &
handfeeding where visitors will be invited in the handfeeding session.

4pm – Leave some donations – The sanctuary closes!

One thing about this sanctuary is that there are no entrance fees like other place, However they will accept the donation from visitor. We might feel that why should they need it, but the fact is the food for the elephant and the cost to maintain it is very high… and when you watch the documentarie, you will understand more about it.

There are lots of people take the opportunity to feed the elephant. All the food is provided by the sanctuary, it cost a lots of money from my point of view.

One of the fun thing to see is that all the kids is very happy to feed the elephant, I can see that they all have really good time. It is a good way to teach your kids about the nature of the elephant and make them more responsible to the earth.

Many people also take this opportunity to ride the elephant. Each day, they limit up to 120 visitor to ride the elephant (there are about 6 elephant if I am not mistake that visitor can ride)

The environment is very nice, there are lots of large trees in this park, the waterfall is beautiful/impressive and the river is very nice and cool. lots of kids (and adults too) bath in the river and the waterfall.

I think this is a must visit for someone that stay in Kuala Lumpur area, sinceit is very near to the city center. If you drive, I think it will take about 30 minute from the city and it maytake a little longer if you take public transport like buses. Some of the buses that you can take to go to this place is Metro bus no 43. This buses will go to Rawang, but it will pass by the place. You can inform the bus driver that you want to go to Kanching and he should able to let you know when to take off the buses.

Kanching recreational forest is actually part of 478 hecter of Kanching Forest Reserved. It is located very near (and I think physically next) to FRIM, Templer Park and also Commenwelth Forest Reserved. This place located 7 km from Rawang city center and 23km from Kuala Lumpur.

Some of the activities that you can do here is camping, picnicking, tracking (or jogging – in the morning), bathing or just relaxing.

I found that the most interesting part about Kanching Recreational Forest is that it have 7 ‘layer’ of waterfall and each of them will have their own pond which visitor can take a bath in it… the water also crystal clear and very cool.

Some facilities in this place is the bathroom (20 cent per entry), a ‘resort’(just open, you can call to 03-55132000 or 012-284 3956 for enquiries) and spacious parking lots. The payment to enter this park is RM1.00 per person (above 12 years old) and parking fees is RM2.00 per entry.

The canopy walk will only operate from 9.30am to 2.30pm. It is not everyday that they open (I forget which day is their rest day, sorry..) but they will operate during weekend, except if the weather is not good or they do some maintainence work.

Based on one of the instructor at the entry point, they just do some maintenance in the fasting month this year, where they change some cable and also repair the third ‘rest station’.

I visit the place about noon and there are not many people if compared to morning. But, I will have to wait for about 30-40 minute. It is school holiday, so many school will bring their student here.

At the entrance of the canopy walk, there are some map and information about the trails. The payment to enter this canopy can be made here as there are some instructor at the entrance to tech you how to walk. She will cover about the space that each person have to take, how many person that each ‘rest station’. By the way, the ‘rest station’ is actually a platform that they do on top of a big trees. It is only a small platform and you will still feel it moving when the wind coming to you.

There are many corner of the canopy walk. The photo below is the first corner. If you are a first timer, you may feel a bit nervous as it will be ‘moving’ when you reach this point. However, the tip is down look down (it is high.. if you afraid of high, you might not able to move on if you look down)

On the ‘resting point’ platform, there will be an information board about what kind of animals some might able to see from the platform. But during my visit, I didn’t see anything special though

The photo below show some people are resting on the platform. There are limitation of the number of people that can use the platform at one time. The first platform can hold 4 person, the second which is the largest platform can hold 8 people and the last platform can hold 4 person.

What you can do here?

There are many activities that you can do here in FRIM. One of the activities is to relax. The environment here very nice, the air is very fresh and the scene is very green. It is not very hot and in a windy days, you will feel very fresh. It is a good place to release, you can forget about the busy life of the city and just relax here.

I also found that this place is a good place, actually a beautiful place to take wedding photography. During my visit, actually saw some wedding photography session is taking place… some photographer also will bring their model here to take the photo.

Jungle tracking is also one of the activities that you can do here. I think if someone is from Kuala Lumpur city and would like to experiance a good jungle tracking, FRIM is one of the best place to do so. The jungle track here will be sufficient for most of the jungle trackker and there are lots of beautiful flora and fauna can be seen here. If you are lucky you might able to see some of the animals like monkeys, deers, lizards and many more.

All the photo is taken in the early morning… (not so early though)… In the afternoon or late evening, there are too many people visit this place. Somehow I think KLCC park is a lung of KL especially in the middle of the city… there are many building that benefited from from this park namely Exxonmobil building, Hotel Mandarin Building, and some apartment that located just next to the park.

I heard a lots about Ulu Yam previously but I haven’t had any chances to visit this place. This is the first time I visit this place and it is worth visit (btw, I am a person that like nature, trees, waterfall, and greenaries)

There are a Dam in Ulu Yam. The dam is Batu Dam, a very beautiful place where you can sit down and watch amazing scenery. Here, you will feel the like you are at a beautiful ocean, where there are lots of water, surround by hilly and green scenary.

Other than the Batu Dam, Ulu Yam also a home of lots of crystal clear water fall which you can take a bath. It is a very good place to relax, picnic, conduct team meeting/team building, camping or even study natures.

How to go there

Well, I think there are not many option if you want to visit this place. It is either you drive your own car or hire a taxi or take a tour package. Ulu yam is a place that only jungle and not many people that stay near this place. The road that passed this area will go further until the hilly area up to Genting Highland.

What can you/do when you visit this place

well, other than bathing, relaxing or other activities that I share ealier. There are some other interesting activities that you can see at this area. One of the activities that, at some place, you can see lots of people sit on the roadside… no their are not begger, they actually go there to take the minerals water that flow from the mountain in the area… sometimes there are lots of people and they need to queue up and take turn to fill the water into their water container that they bring.

Do you know that bamboo also have flower? You can see it here in Ulu Yam… above is the bamboo flower.

Other than that, during my visit, I also saw some people practise their motocross at this place. Seem like they conduct the training every days… the interesting part of it is that at that time I saw some kids riding the bikes. the kids that I saw most probably only 3-4 years old… it is cute to see those kids do the practise session.

History

Kuala Lumpur Hibiscus Garden or in their Malays name Taman Bunga Raya is officiated  by Datin Sri Dr. Siti Hasmah binti Hj. mohd Ali on  Monday 16th October 1989. It is about 3 years after the Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden is officially launched.

Operating Hour

Kuala Lumpur Hibiscus Garden is open everydays from 9.00am to 6.00 pm. On weekdays, it is free admission but visitor need to pay RM1.00 per entry on weekend and public holidays.  I am not sure if many know that actually KL Hibiscus Garden and KL orchid Garden is actually next to each other and if you pay for one you can visit both of them.

How to go to the Kuala Lumpur Hibiscus Garden

You can visit hibiscus garden when you go to Lake Garden. You can take a taxi from your hotel in kuala Lumpur or taking bus (in 2007  the KL hop on hop off is operated and you can take this bus)

Main Attraction

One of the main attraction in hibiscus garden is the place to do wedding photo shooting. Here is some of the photo that I take that I saw it happen (my photo is not as good that the proffessional though)

One more attraction at KL hibiscus garden is a studio/ shop in the garden. Well, the photo is very nice. I have visit it (but sorry no photo is allowed). The painting is by hand and the artist is there to help if you need any assistant about the paint. Most of the painting is about nature,  jungle and trees.

Hibiscus garden will not complete with hibiscus flower.. some said that in this garden there are about 2000 hibiscus over here… here is some of the photo of the flower that I take during my visit

The photo above is only a small fraction of the flower that is avaiable in the garden. If you want to visit the garden, i will recommend you to visit it from the morning because it is not so hot (Malaysia is very hot); the air is fresh in the morning and the flower is starting to bloom. You also will have enough time to visit both the hibiscus garden and orchid garden.

How to go to the Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden

There are many option for anyone that want to visit Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden. One of them is by taking the ‘KL-Hop on Hop off’ buses. This is one of the best way, because this buses will take you to lots of interesting place in Kuala Lumpur and not just the Orchid Garden. Inform the driver that you want to visit Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden in Lake Garden (Taman Tasik Perdana – in Malays language) and I am sure he will able to assist you.

One more method is by taking taxi. I am not sure how much is the fare (because it will be depend on the traffic and also the distance from your hotel), normally taxi in KL will start from RM2.50, when you took it, and it will increase depending on the time taken.

What can we see and do in Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden

There are lots of beautiful and exotic orchid in the garden. It is said that it contain about 800 species of the orchid in the garden.

Other than watching and taking orchid photo, the view in this place also very nice, peaceful and of course very beautiful. There are water fountain, waterfall, lotus pond and astakas. You can spend a whole day overhere reading some books or relaxing.

Orchid Shop in the KL orchid garden also provide lots of choices for orchid enthusiasm. I found that the price is also reasonable. You should visit the shop (located inside the garden) if you visit this place…

Kl orchid garden will open everyday from 9.00 am to 6.00 pm. For public holiday and weekend, there are entrance fee. The current fees is RM1.00/person (applicable for 12 Years old and above only). For Weekdays, there are no entrance fees.

History

KL orchid garden is officially launch by Datin Sri (now Tun) Dr. Siti Hasmah bte Hj Mohd Ali, the wife of late Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Mahadhir Mohammad on Tuesday 15 April 1986. Later on 1989, the hibiscus garden is launch by her and it is link to this orchid garden.
